I’m sure you have decorated your house with many different types of lights and you have most probably used the traditional C7 light bulb, but probably didn’t know it. These are a perfect bulb to use when decorating the inside of your house.

Even though these light bulbs have a retro look, they have been growing in popularity over the last decade and for good reason. They can be used for indoor or outdoor, but make sure you check the product specifications so you know you are getting the right type of set as this does matter. But even if the box says they are ok for outdoor decorating, I would not recommend it as the C7 lights are not weather-resistant. If you want light bulbs for outside decorating, you should stick with the C9 bulbs. C7 lights usually come in 25 and 100 foot strands. They come in several different colors and styles.

What is really great about the C7 Christmas lights is that if one bulb goes out, the rest of the strand still stays lit. That is due to the parallel circuit. No more messing with the whole strand to figure out which light is causing the problem. I’m sure you have encountered that in the past and it usually takes hours to find it, if you do. If you don’t you’ve still wasted hours and have no lights. Each strand spaces the bulbs one foot apart, so if you have a 25 foot strand, you will have 25 lights. As for safety and energy efficiency, C7 lights are considered cool-burning and only burn 5 watts each. Because they don’t get hot, they are not a fire hazard any more than other light strands for your tree.

Another great feature of the C7 light strand is you can vary the color pattern or colors on the strand. They come in transparent, ceramic and flashing. You can get pastel colors in the ceramic bulbs.

Because the ceramic bulbs are a more solid looking bulb versus the transparent, they are easier to look at and give off a soft, warm glow. But, either type is perfectly fine and really depends on the individual’s taste for their decorating needs. But, when picking your bulbs, pick one type and go with it. It’s not wise to mix and match ceramic with the transparent bulbs. The C7 lights are so wonderful to use for decorating because they are larger than the mini or regular Christmas tree lights and they brighten up anything you decorate.

The C7 bulb is about 2 inches and is smaller than the C9 bulbs that are about 3 inches. The smaller C7 bulb is better for indoor decorating. Here is a great picture to show you the difference between the two.

The C7 Christmas Light strand is a great value because they last up to 5 years and won’t have to replace them year after year. Also, since one bulb going out won’t affect the others, you can still keep the whole strand and just replace the one bulb.

Another great feature of the C7 lights which is similar to the C9 lights is that each socket has a molded clip making it super easy to attach to whatever you are decorating, especially your tree. You can attach them easily to the branches so they stay put and don’t fall off.

Some suggestions for decorating your tree with C7 bulbs is to first string your Christmas light string around the tree where you want them. Then, go back and screw in each bulb so that if you are alternating colors for your tree, then you will not have a glob of one color in an area versus having the colors spaced out more evenly. It’s always best to buy at least one more C7 light strand than you have measured for just in case you do need to replace burnt out bulbs and in the event you may have measured short. Of course you should always look for UL rated lights for safety. C7 Christmas Lights will really add a special touch to your tree since they are bigger than the miniature light sets and you will get more enjoyment out of them this holiday season.
